Insurance Brokers Moranbah
The hub of the Isaac region, Moranbah is brand spanking new, in fact it is even called ‘‘the new kid on the block”. Moranbah was designed and built for the coalminers working in two principal open-cut mines and half a dozen smaller ones, and their families, and while the cost of living is somewhat higher than in Brisbane, it is a thriving, modern, prosperous town and the facilities and infrastructure are first-class and up-to-date.
T.A. Rickard wrote “Mining is the art of exploiting mineral deposits at a profit. An unprofitable mine is fit only for the sepulcher of a dead mule.”
Most of the townspeople work for international mining companies, who subsidise their housing and invest substantial sums of money in the town. Several more mines will open over the next few years. Unemployment is one per cent and falling, despite China’s reduced demand for coal. The Goonyella and Peak Downs Mines and the smaller mines send coking coal to Hay Point by rail and it is shipped from there. There are an airport, an excellent hospital, a fine golf course and impressive sporting and educational amenities.
The remote but picturesque Peak Range is a chain of volcanic plugs about 120 kilometres south of Moranbah, where vehicles are not allowed, but there are giant spiders, bats and rare plants and wallabies. The Whitsunday Islands, between Northern Queensland and the Great Barrier Reef, are only about two hours away.
Mervyn Peake wrote: “The midnight miner in the secret seams,
Limb, life, and bread.”
Residents say that Moranbah is safe, friendly and relaxed and that they particularly enjoy the sense of community. However long you decide to live and work in Moranbah though, you need an insurance broker you can rely on. A coal miner needs the best advice and protection available — and full insurance coverage. Not just life insurance, but income protection insurance, trauma insurance and disability insurance are essential, as well as superannuation income protection insurance. Miners are well paid because of the considerable, ever-present dangers they are exposed to.
